Shoreline Garage Doors | Your ears are garage door tools, too!

When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you ever stop to appreciate all of the complex, unique features that make being a human so fantastic?  Probably not–  Most people don’t, but you should be grateful for this gift!  You should also be grateful of the built in tools you possess on your body.

Take for instance your ears.  Your ears can be used for many different (useful) things, like listening for a car before crossing a road, listening for emergency vehicles while driving, and listening for strange noises when you operate your garage door.

That last one may seem a little out of place, but it definitely belongs there!  Most garage door issues manifest as strange noises before they manifest as a broken spring, so it’s important to pay attention to the noise your garage door puts out while operating–  If it sounds out of the ordinary, call someone immediately so that you can have it checked out!

And every so often, appreciate the human body!

Shoreline Garage Doors | Teach Your Children about Garage Door Safety

Garage doors are the heaviest moving object in most homes. They have often been referred to as guillotines and rightly so. There are countless stories of people who have been hurt by garage doors closing on them.

That is why it is super important to teach your children about garage door safety. You should teach your children not to play with the remote control for the garage door. You should teach your children to never go under a moving garage door. And you should teach your children about the safety features of your garage door.

Don’t Play with Garage Door Remote Controls

Remote controls are fun for children. They love pushing the buttons to see what they do. Garage door remote controls are perplexing for most children because when they get hold of the remote it is not immediately apparent what it does. Most times they are not in view of the garage door to see the cause and effect relationship between the buttons on the remote and the opening and closing of the garage door. It is important to keep all garage door remote controls out of the reach of little hands and to teach children that they should never touch the remote control. If children are playing with the remote, they could inadvertently crush someone or something with the door.

Don’t Go Under a Moving Garage Door

Have you ever dashed under the garage door as it was closing? This game of beat the garage door is very dangerous. A moving garage door has a lot of force and can crush people and things very easily. While you shouldn’t play this game, it is vitally important that you teach your children never to go under a moving garage door.

If you forget something or need to go through the garage door, use the control buttons to stop the movement of the door before going in or out. By setting an example for your children, they will be less likely to engage in this very risky behavior.

Teach Your Children about Garage Door Safety Features

Many garage doors have safety features that will help prevent accidental injury to persons or property. These safety features include sensor beams that detect objects under the garage door, automatic reverse system if something is detected under the door, and emergency release cords.

Teaching your children about these safety features will help drive home the point that garage doors can be very dangerous. Also, by showing them these features and explaining the safety features to your children, they will be prepared in the case of a garage door emergency.
Moving garage doors are one of the modern conveniences that make life just a little bit easier. Be sure to take the time to teach your children about garage door safety to reduce the risk of garage door accidents in your home.

Shoreline Garage Doors | Is garage door insulation necessary?

Garages are designed to shelter cars, appliances, or whatever other items we choose to store in them.  They lack the insulation that houses have between their walls; therefore, they can be affected greatly by outdoor temperatures.  Snowy conditions will cause the garage to serve as a refrigerator, while summer temperatures will likely make the garage warm and stuffy.  The only solution to this sticky problem is to insulate your garage!

Garage door insulation can be extremely helpful in making your garage inhabitable.  Garages are like blank canvasses —you can transform them into whatever kind of room or workshop your heart desires.  Many people like to use garages as a general storage space, and/or to house their vehicles, but the potential doesn’t stop there.  Garages are great spaces in which to create your latest masterpiece.  Whether you’re into whittling, pottery, painting, or sculpting, your garage can serve you as an awesome studio.  For those of you who are writers, or just like to work in an isolated setting, garage-to-office is a great conversion.  Whenever you decide that you want to transform your garage into something better—toy room, man cave, mini-casino, etc.—call your local repairman or insulator to make the alteration comfortable and thorough.

Insulating a garage is one of the best decisions you can make as a homeowner.  If you decide to stay in your home for good, by insulating, you have essentially added an additional room to your house.  Even when hobbies and interests change (as they so often do), the garage will remain a temperature controlled atmosphere to best suit your needs at any given time.  With insulation and a heating/air conditioning unit, a garage has the potential to serve whatever purpose you envision.  If you do decide to sell later on down the line, any potential buyer will recognize what a great addition an insulated garage is, which means higher, more frequent offers.

In short, garage insulation is a universally appreciated alteration, which benefits any and every household.  It is more affordable than you may think, and will serve you for years, if not decades, from now.  Venture into uncharted territory and consider the possibility of an additional room to your house today.

Shoreline Garage Doors | My Garage Door won’t close. Now what!?

Your garage door closes halfway then it reverses and you aren’t sure what to do? Well, let us tell you it could many things, but to every problem, there is always a solution. In this case, what we would recommend you to do is to take a look at your cables. With this problem, it could mean that your cables may have snapped and you may need to have it repaired. If it is not the cables, then it may be the close-force setting that has been set on your opener. Adjust the setting until you are able to open and close your garage door with no problems. Another place to look at on your garage door, if the other options don’t work, would be your bearings on your rollers. Check to see if the bearings on your rollers need to be lubricated; if so, add a 3-in-1 lubrication to your rollers just to make sure it’s running smoothly. Another thing you can take a look at is the eye on your sensors. Some people just forget that the eyes need to be dusted once in a while to prevent any issues such as these. So dust off the dirt in those eyes, and it should do the trick. If all else fails, call your local garage door company to have a service technician take a look, it may be some thing much more difficult than a Do-It-Yourself project.
